Based on the miner's computing power, the probability of mining an independent block is "1 in 1.2 million (0.000083%)", or "on average at least every 3,500 years" to encounter such a lucky opportunity.

In the early morning of July 25, a solo miner successfully won the right to add the 853,742th block to the Bitcoin blockchain, processed a block containing 4,365 transactions, and finally won a block reward of 3.19 bitcoins, worth about $210,000.

Con Kolivas, a software engineer at ckpool, a separate mining pool, revealed the news in a post, pointing out that the miner successfully mined the 290th "Solo Block" in Bitcoin history with only 3 Terahashes (TH/s) of computing power and only took 1 day.

According to Con Kolivas, based on the miner's computing power, the probability of mining a solo block is "1 in 1.2 million (0.000083%)", or "on average at least every 3,500 years" to encounter such a lucky opportunity.

Do a simple calculation to know how lucky this is!

(1)If you have a single very old ASIC (Bitmain s9 ) than the chance is 1 in 93,149 per day of finding a block or on average once every 255 years

(2)If you have a modern ASIC (Bitmain s19 ) than the chance is 1 in 13,727 per day of finding a block or on average once every 38 years .

This is why most people mine in pool s so they share the reward and get paid a little everyday.

Most miners join miner pools, pooling their collective hash power to mine transactions so that they collectively have a greater chance of winning the subsidy. The participants in the pool get a pro rata share of the reward, depending on how much hash they contribute. I’m assuming the story here is a single independent miner beating out the pools and winning the entire block reward for themselves, which is pretty rare.
